The National Museum of History of Ukraine starts from 1899 when the archaeological exhibition was held in the City Museum of Antiquity and Arts, which was situated that time in the National Art Museum.
The official opening of the museum took place in 1904. The collections of the founders of the museum and collections of the well known archaeologists of that time were included in the exhibition. Firstly, the museum lived on the means of its patrons but later on, in 1909 it was gifted with state annual grant. In 1935, the museum moved to the territory of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. During the Second World War the museum collection was moved to Ufa, and in 1944, the exhibits were returned back to Kiev - the museum was located on Starokievs'kaya Hill, in the sites of art school. It has been situated here to nowdays.

Exposition
The Museum exposition displays all stages of Ukrainian history - from old ages to our days, items of every day life of the first Slavonic tribes, weapons and armour of the ancient Slavs. It also presents Soviet epoch and Orange revolution.
