The project was made up by B.Rastrelli in 1748, the building works were done under guidence of a Moscow architect Ivan Michurin. Many specialists of Sanct-Petersburg, Moscow, Kiev took an active part in building the church thus, St.Andrew's church is a result of hard creative work of Russian and Ukrainian masters. St.Andrew church is one of the most splendid buildings done in baroque style which was spread in Russian and Ukrainian architectural art in the end of XVII-middle of XVIII century. It had been borrowed originally from the west but was influenced much by local masters and got in the end some national features.
Baroque is characterised with some magnificence, luxury and showiness of style, rich decoration and colourful wall paint, much gilt. St.Andrew church has all these features.
Its decor has some sculpture - heads of cherubs, figures of angels, three-figured image of "Crucifixation", completing altar. B.Rasstrelli was in run of the project and interior works particularly. All the painting represents religious scenes, however, it also presents some pictures of high life which are characterised with showy poses, images of smart clothes, details from everyday life, landscapes and still life, just according to baroque style. The painting is harmoniously combined with sculpture, carving and architectural shapes. In whole, the interior of the church is bright, elegant, jovial - it produces an impression of a luxury palace hall. In 1968, St.Andrew church was declared a museum.
